Welcome to Nuclear Medicine
What is Nuclear Medicine?
Nuclear medicine uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose and treat various conditions. It provides detailed images of how your organs and tissues are functioning.
What to Expect During Your Visit
1. Before Your Appointment
You may receive specific instructions about eating, drinking, or medication.
Bring your referral letter and medical aid details if applicable.
Wear comfortable clothing; you may be asked to change into a gown.
2. On the Day of Your Scan or Treatment
Arrive early to allow time for registration.
A small amount of radioactive tracer will be administered (by injection, orally, or inhalation).
There may be a waiting period before imaging begins.
3. During the Procedure
The scan is painless and typically takes between 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the type.
You may be asked to lie still or change positions.
Our staff will guide you throughout the process.
4. After the Procedure
You can usually resume normal activities unless advised otherwise.
Drink plenty of fluids to help flush the tracer from your body.
Results are sent to your referring doctor.
